biography

Three decades of personal caregiving experience with 20+ years providing administrative support in the corporate world to improve the quality of lives for those we serve.

Rose’s journey as a compassionate caregiver began as a personal one. As a new mother, Rose’s first child was born with congenital glaucoma. Three years of sleepless nights, endless care and more than 10 surgeries later, her son was completely blind at 3 years old. Love, compassion, commitment, patience, dedication, and resourcefulness were just a few of the characteristics she had already developed; and she was still at the beginning of her son’s journey.

Rose was tenacious about making sure her son grew up to be an independent, productive, and relevant member of society. She demanded that there would be “NO victims” in this scenario!! She leveraged every available resource to ensure that he learned Braille, received tutoring for both schooling and independent life skills for the visually impaired/blind, and accessed & utilized technology to offset some of the challenges of his disability. At the same time, she insisted that he proceed through the mainstream education system—there would be no Special Education classes on his schedule. His High School career included serving as the Editor of the school newspaper, representing his school in the academic decathlon, and graduating with a 3.6 GPA.

If successfully raising a blind child wasn’t challenging enough, Rose’s daughter was born 5 years after her son. Raising her children—one being sighted and other blind—created the opportunity for Rose to master the skill of customizing care (in this case, her parenting) in such a way that met the individual needs yet allowed both children to feel equally loved and nurtured. Currently, Rose’s son holds a bachelor’s degree from La Verne University, lives independently with his significant other, and is successfully self-employed as a freelance writer and consultant. Rose’s 24-year-old daughter works full-time as a medical assistant and is pursuing her education and career in nursing.

The skills and characteristics that Rose developed as a young mom are complimented by her expertise in elder care.  While she may have limited “professional” experience in the senior care industry, she has been the primary caregiver for her aging mother, who moved in with her in 2003. Although her mother has slowed down considerably over the past 20 years, that’s to be expected at age 92 and on hospice care.
